Jockey Zac Spain displayed remarkable skill and determination in Monday’s Adelaide Cup, riding nearly two-thirds of the race without irons after they broke early on.

Despite the setback, Spain guided Amade admirably, positioning them for a possible victory in the straight.

Although ultimately overtaken by rivals Excelleration and The Map, Spain’s ride drew admiration from spectators.

Reflecting on the experience, Spain expressed frustration at the unfortunate turn of events but praised his mount’s performance.

“Very frustrating to be honest,” Spain remarked to Racing.com.

“The horse has been flying, and for that to happen is very unlucky.”

He humorously added, “I had one iron snap going to the barriers, fell off him, and then luckily the barrier boys had one behind there.”

Despite feeling sore post-race, Spain credited the horse, stating, “He definitely looked after me today.”
