Atalayar representative Pedro González, paired with Crescencio Argüeso, a veteran of the EFE Agency, triumphed in the final tournament of the Spanish Association of Golf Journalists (AEPJG), held at the La Valdueza course (Salamanca).
Their 42 points, equivalent to 6 under par, are all the more meritorious given that a large part of the round was played under relentless rain, which was very welcome for the courses and pastures which, like many other parts of Spain, have suffered significant droughts. Faced with the deluge, at times torrential, both players applied the Scottish saying that ‘golf is played even when it’s sunny’.
Almost a hundred journalists and media technicians gathered for the second consecutive year at this course, whose owner, the businessman Eustaquio Andrés, has decided to turn it into one of the best maintained and affordable courses in the country for professionals and golf enthusiasts, who want to take advantage of the monumental history of Salamanca to practice and enjoy this sport.
The AEPJG has held a total of 23 tournaments over the ten months of this 2024 season, with the addition to its circuit of courses such as Banco Santander, La Dehesa, Las Lomas and La Herrería, and the contribution of sponsors such as DePique and Toa, which have made it possible to hold a league as long as it is varied and very hard-fought.
In addition to the winners of the President’s Cup in the last tournament, Pedro González (Atalayar) and Crescencio Argüeso (EFE), the final podium in the handicap category was occupied by Miguel Carnero (Tele5), Francisco Domínguez (RTVE) and Tales Azzoni (Associated Press). In the scratch category, the final victory went to Juan José Pinedo (El Español), with José González (TVE) and Jesús Pastor (Cadena SER). The latter also achieved the great feat of the day by getting a hole in one shot on a par three.
