The German international’s contract was set to expire this summer, leaving speculation surrounding whether Kroos would make a return to the Bundesliga. Regardless, the 34-year-old’s representatives have negotiated a new deal with Real president Florentino Perez, with Kroos now just needing to put pen to paper.
It is understood that Kroos made his decision prior to Germany’s friendly victory over the Netherlands on Tuesday evening. An extended one-year deal will see the 34-year-old into his tenth year for Los Blancos, having signed from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2014.
During his time in La Liga, Kroos has been able to lift three league titles and four Champions Leagues, in addition to a plethora of other major honours. However, this new deal is reflective of Kroos’ performances, who, despite being in the twilight of his career, has remained a crucial player at the Santiago Bernabéu.
