See which stores and shopping malls will be open and shut in Murcia this May Day holiday
These are the main stores, supermarkets and shopping centres that will be open this bank holiday Wednesday.
Shopping centres
El Corte Inglés and IKEA, both those in Murcia and Cartagena, will be shut for the day.
Supermarkets
As for the supermarkets, Mercadona is closing its doors, as it always does on public holidays.
Lidl, Carrefour, Aldi, Alcampo, Consum and Dia do not have such a strict policy of closing on bank holidays, meaning most of their shops will be open on May 1, although in some cases their opening hours will simply be reduced. That’s why, if you’re thinking of going to any of these supermarkets, it is best to check the website of each store to find out exactly if your nearest supermarket is open.
More public holidays coming up in Murcia
After the May Day bank holiday, we will have to wait for over three months until the next festivo in Murcia, which is also a holiday in the rest of Spain.
The regional holiday on June 9 for the Region of Murcia Day falls on a Sunday this year, and it will NOT be moved to Monday June 10.
- Thursday August 15: Feast of the Assumption

- Friday November 1: All Saints’ Day
- Friday December 6: Day of the Spanish Constitution
- Monday December 9: Holiday for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception (moved from December 8)
- Wednesday December 25: Christmas Day
