The Minister of Defence, Margarita Robles, during her visit to the Toledo Infantry Academy
Robles reiterated the brutality of this war, “especially in these times when Ukrainian civilians are victims of attacks that are unacceptable from any point of view, as they violate all rules on the law of war and humanitarian law”.
In her speech to the Ukrainians and their instructors, the Minister for Defence stated that Spain “is sending Ukraine all the resources it can do within its capabilities and that, in terms of training, the Spanish military is essential. I am very grateful and proud of the work they do.”
To date, Spain has trained and instructed over 5,000 combatants and around 2,500 Spanish military personnel have participated in the training. In addition to the training, the human qualities of the instructors and of all the Spanish personnel who support the fighters during their 5 weeks of learning should also be highlighted.
For all these reasons, Ukraine has a high opinion of Spain’s Armed Forces.
Spain is participating in the European Union Military Assistance Mission in support of Ukraine (EUMAN Ukraine) through the ‘Toledo Training Coordination Center’, created at the end of 2022, which enables rotating groups of Ukrainian military personnel arriving in Spain to be trained. The training has been rolled out 500 troops at a time.
