DICKINSON — Seven months after Pastor Liliana says she received a vision showing her a need for the word of God in Dickinson, she and her husband, Pastor David, moved from Brownsville, Texas, where they co-pastored at Maranatha Church.

Upon arriving in Dickinson, David began working in the oilfield while they prepared to launch their

ministry at the River of Life Church, located at 59 Osborn Drive. The River of Life Church International also hosts an African-speaking service on Sunday afternoons.

Open Skies now provides Dickinson with a Spanish-speaking service. According to the pastors, while there are several bilingual services in the area, they believe their ministry offers the cultural comfort of a fully Hispanic service for the Latino community.

Pastor Liliana stated that in recent years, Dickinson has seen an increase in its Spanish-speaking population. Data from Census Reporter indicates that 2.7% of Dickinson’s population speaks Spanish at home. Historically, North Dakota has had a smaller Spanish-speaking population compared to states with larger Hispanic communities, which has resulted in fewer bilingual church services.

Currently, Open Skies Church holds one Sunday service at 4 p.m., where they preach to people from 13 different nations. The church recently purchased the vacant Sanford medical building at 938 2nd Ave in Dickinson to establish a permanent home for Dickinson’s Spanish-speaking communities.

The church and worship team welcome everyone to attend their services, with English translation available through headphones.

Renovations have begun but won’t be complete until at least late next year, primarily due to contractors only being available to work on Saturdays. Any donations of volunteer time, materials or financial assistance toward the completion of the new Open Skies church building are welcomed with gratitude.
