Norwegian expat is arrested after falsely claiming the €70,000 he lost at casinos in Alicante was the result of credit card fraud – Olive Press News Spain

A NORWEGIAN man lost almost €70,000 at Alicante province gambling saloons and tried to get his money back from his bank by claiming he was a victim of credit card fraud.

The Policia Nacional have arrested the 54-year-old suspect on multiple fraud charges and for reporting a bogus crime.

He alleged that 184 transactions were unknowingly made on his card at two gaming establishments in Elche.

CCTV images and a witness confirmed that he was in made all the transactions.

He spent months going to have a flutter, sometimes betting and spending up to €20,000 in a single day.

His addiction was such that he brought food with him so that he could gamble without interruption for up to 14 hours.

The man then tried to claim back the lost wagers from his bank after falsely claiming somebody else had been using his card details.
