This Cartagena cove was chosen by the British outlet because it’s teeming with wildlife and natural beauty
This month, a team from The Telegraph has scoured the globe to find the 50 best beaches in the world. Now, the things which make up the perfect holiday spot vary from person to person, so the UK outlet has broken the rankings into categories, which range from bustling coastal resorts and adventure paradises to remote spots off the beaten track.
In its first category, the ‘Best for wildlife’, Nihiwaty Beach in Indonesia has claimed the top spot thanks to its crystal-clear waters, pristine natural environment and rich marine life.
“Secret coves, sand dunes and cliffs that stand out against infinite skies” are some of the qualities mentioned by The Telegraph travel experts, who recommended that visitors keep a keen eye out for “Bonelli’s eagles in the early morning, and eagle owls late at night”.
Aside from Calblanque, Playa de La Concha in San Sebastián made the grade for one of the beaches with the ‘best atmosphere’, having previously been declared Europe’s most beautiful city beach.
Another honourable mention goes to Cala Tuent in Mallorca, recognised in the ‘hidden gems’ category as a “wild and natural paradise with a magnificent mountain backdrop.”
