Galway’s Joe Lyons closed with a five-under 67 to come from three shots off the lead to win the Spanish Senior Men’s Amateur Championship by four strokes at Real Club Sevilla Golf.

The former West of Ireland champion began the third and final round tied for sixth on two-under-par as France’s Benjamin Morin led by two strokes on five-under from a four-man chasing pack that included Milltown’s Jody Fanagan.

Birdies at the fifth, eighth and ninth saw Lyons turn in three-under 33 before he added further birdies at the 10th, 12th and 13th to go six-under for the day.

He eventually sandwiched a birdie four at the 16th between bogeys at the 14th and 17th to shoot 67 and win by four strokes from France’s Pascal Grizot (71) and Italy’s Pfoestl Franz on seven-under.
