Lathbury Lightning found their first win on the European Cricket League after beating Royal Tigers Budapest by six wickets in the late evening match on Monday.
Having started their campaign in group C of the competition with a defeat against Beveren, losing by 16 runs earlier in the afternoon, Lathbury went on to win their next match just hours later to provide them with a boost for the next days play.
Lathbury were defeated by 102/7 against an 86/7 by Beveren. The match was to see Hakim Khaksar from Beveren bat 27 (13) with Kenroy Nestor top batsman for Lathbury with 24 (17).
Sameer Nayak was to bowl 2/14 (2).
In their second match Iain Latin was to be Lathbury Lightning’s top batsman with a 17 (8) with Avinash Pai coming away as top bowler with a 2/8 (1).
Lathbury Lightning’s participation was to come under the spotlight over reports that the Gibraltar flag was not being shown by Spanish media coverage with the matches taking place in Spain.
Organisers European Cricket Network, however, on Tuesday continued to show the Gibraltar flag alongside the Gibraltar team in its official website, including on scoresheets.
Lathbury were due to play Olten on Tuesday morning, also facing Fossum later in the afternoon.
This newspaper was awaiting comment from Gibraltar Cricket.
The match against Beveren saw umpires Nilkesh Patel (SPA), Tyrone Peters (SA) and Suleman Saeed (ITA), with referee Robert Kemming (NED), the man of the match being Shahidullah Otmanzai, Lathbury’s match against Royal Tigers Budapest saw umpires Tyrone Peters (SA), Nilkesh Patel (SPA) and Ian Ramage (SCO) with referee Robert Kemming (NED) officiating with Lathbury Lightning’s Sameer Nayak as man of the match.
