According to a poll conducted by Spain’s La Sexta TV channel, more than half of Spaniards approve of the national football team players chanting “Gibraltar is Spanish” during the Eurocup celebration.
It also illustrated the majority of Vox voters supported the players’ actions and chants.
The poll was carried in La Sexta’s news and sports programming this weekend.
Despite the complaint lodged by the GFA and the potential sanction against players Rodri and Morata for the chants, 54% of those surveyed by La Sexta support the players’ actions.
The poll further breaks down support by political affiliation: among PP voters, there is strong backing for the players, with 83% of respondents in favor, while Vox voters show almost unanimous support at 98.7%.
In contrast, voters for the PSOE and Sumar parties are mostly against these chants, with both groups showing 68% disapproval.
On Friday, UEFA confirmed it had appointed an Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector to evaluate what it describes as a potential violation of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations by players Rodri and Morata.
