Spanish Tourist Raped By 8-10 Men In Dumka
Dumka: A 45-year-old tourist from Spain was allegedly gang-raped by about 8-10 men in Dumka district of Jharkhand on late Friday night. The incident occurred in the Kurumahat area under Hansdiha police station where the tourist was staying in a makeshift tent.
She claimed that she was out on bike with her husband when about 8-10 people intercepted her and dragged her to a secluded place and raped her.
Dumka SP Pitamber Singh Kherwar told TOI that they have detained three persons and further probe is on.
He said, “At around 10:30pm-11pm, the woman stopped a police van which was on patrol in the area for help. She had some bruise injuries too. The policemen took her to the hospital where she told doctors that she was raped. We are looking into the case.”
He added that they are getting a medical examination done of the victim. “Three persons have been detained for questioning,” he said.
The couple reportedly had arrived from Bangladesh on a two-wheeler and were on their way to Nepal via Bihar.
Dumka SP said the administration didn’t have any information about the Spanish couple’s visit to Dumka or the place they were camping in.
“The couple are bikers who are touring places and keep camping at different locations from time to time on their journey. Police are collecting further details,” he said.
Political Reactions
Jharkhand health minister Banna Gupta said he was unaware of the complete facts regarding the incident but assured strict action against the perpetors as per the law.
“I don’t know all the complete facts of this incident but the government is committed to take strict action against all those evil doers whosoever commits such crime against any of our sister, Indian or foreigner, within the law,” he told reporters.
BJP MLA Anant Ojha called the incident a “stain of the state” and proof of the deteriorating law and order situation.
“This shows the deteriorating law & order situation in the state that even the foreigners aren’t safe here. Police should act soon and the government should also take cognizance of it and take strict action against such anarchists. This government has been completely failed,” Ojha told ANI.
