The Jerusalem Jewish Film Festival returns this year with a special program to commemorate Hanukkah, with film screenings from December 28 to January 2 at the Jerusalem Cinematheque.
The festival organisers selected a cycle of films that explore themes such as identity, humour and resilience, as well as offering the general public the chance to see films that have won awards at prestigious festivals such as Venice and Berlinale.
Daniella Tourgeman, the festival’s director, said: “October 7 sparked an awakening in many people and their expression of Jewish identity through art and film.”
At the opening of the event, a screening will be held The Brutalist, a drama starring Adrien Brody set in post-war America. Throughout the week, audiences will also be able to see ball, a 90-minute prequel to the Shtisel television series, the documentary Marathon Mom, directed by Rebecca Shore and Oren Rosenfeld, about Beatie Deutsch, an ultra-Orthodox runner, and also Song of Ascent, about singer Matisyahu and the anti-Israeli backlash following the Hamas terrorist attack and the war in Gaza.
In addition, there will also be special activities with part of the production team of some of the films.
