The man was taken ill in the city’s Plaza de España as crowds gathered for the Holy Wednesday procession
A 56-year-old Irishman is recovering in hospital after suffering a heart attack during Easter ceremonies in the Spanish city of Seville.
The man was taken ill in the city’s Plaza de España as crowds gathered for the Holy Wednesday procession.
Civil Protection volunteers rushed to the aid of the man and activated a defibrillator.
He was also given cardiorespiratory resuscitation, CPR, and managed to recover until he was able to be taken by ambulance to hospital, according to local reports in El Puerto.
The Deputy Mayor for Security of the El Puerto de Santa María City Council, Jesús Garay, thanked the Civil Protection volunteers, local and national police and health services for their “rapid, coordinated intervention” that “managed to save a life”.
“The mayor takes the opportunity to congratulate all the volunteers and professionals who have once again demonstrated their skill in helping and saving lives,” El Puerto reports.
