5 million cars are expected to hit the roads in Murcia starting from this weekend in Operación Verano
Any time there’s a major holiday in Spain, such as when schools get out for the Christmas break or a ‘puente’ long weekend or, as is the case now, the start of summer, they call the mass movement of people on the roads ‘Operación So-and-so’.
Accordingly, as we move from June into July, you can prepare this weekend for the start of Operación Verano, when there are expected to be 5 million cars on the roads around the Region of Murcia over the summer period.
Government and traffic authorities have taken the opportunity, as they always do, to remind people of the importance of staying safe on the roads, especially when it comes to the risks associated with speeding and driving under the influence.
So far in 2024, alcohol and drugs have been present in 67% of fatal accidents recorded on the roads of the Region of Murcia.
That’s why, during July and August there will be special police control campaigns on the roads of Murcia. Specifically, police will be conducting checks to catch speeders from July 15 to 21, and another to detect the presence of alcohol and drugs amongst drivers from August 19 to 25.
On all these dates, there is likely to be increased traffic on the roads, so please drive carefully.
