Spanish side Getafe are eyeing a loan move for struggling Real Sociedad striker, Sadiq Umar, ahead of the 2024/25 season, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
It’s been a difficult two-year spell for the Nigeria international since joining the Basque outfits from Almeria during the 2022 summer for €20m.
The Super Eagles forward started the 2022/23 season in fine form, scoring three goals in five matches with a debut goal for the Txuri-Urdinak against Atletico Madrid, before suffering the injury that saw him out of action for 11 months.
Since his return from the ACL injury, Umar has been a shadow of himself.
After making his return in the 2023/24 season against Girona, Umar had gone 11 straight games in the league without scoring a game before netting a stunner in Real Sociedad’s 2-1 over Sevilla on matchday 12.
Despite the show of brilliance, the Nigerian has not been able to make his way into Imanol Alguacil’s starting XI playing a total of 1070 minutes from a possible 3240 minutes starting just 12 of the club’s 36 La Liga games.
In their last seven games, the 27-year-old played just 22 minutes after coming on as a substitute against Getafe.
With his future at the Anoeta Stadium uncertain, Football Espana on Wednesday wrote that he was destined to leave the club.
After just 24 hours, Spanish journalist Angel Garcia wrote that Getafe were interested in the striker ahead of next season.
“As per Angel Garcia, Getafe are eyeing up a loan move for Real Sociedad striker Umar Sadiq,” the website wrote on Thursday.
Umar emerged as a priority target for Jose Bordalas’ side, who lost Enes Unal during the winter, as he joined Andoni Iraola at Premier League club AFC Bournemouth.
