Former Epsom Derby winner Ruler Of The World has moved to Spain where he will become a stallion in the country. It is a huge boost to Spanish horse racing as it may help to produce future champions.

Ruler Of The World won four races in total in his career, accumulating over £1 million in prize money. Other triumphs came in the Chester Vase and Prix Foy. He retired on British Champions Day in 2014.

Derby Winners Have a Great Record at Stud

The Derby at Epsom is the ultimate test of a racehorse, so it is no surprise that winners of the race have done well as stallions. The latest winner, City Of Troy, could go on to a have big career too once he retires. He is set for one final run in the Breeders’ Cup Classic before retiring, and he is the +300 in the odds on horse racing betting to bow out with a win.

Ruler Of The World has already started breeding and many of his horses appear in the horse racing tips for the leading races in Europe. One of his first offsprings, Iridessa, won the Group One Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket.

Now in Dehesa de Milagro, Narra, Ruler Of The World will be covering some of the leading broodmares in Spain. With the help of Spanish breeder Felipe Hinojosa, those involved in the breeding operation will be hoping he proves to be a success.

Spain is some distance behind the UK, Ireland, and France when it comes to producing champion Flat horses. With the help of Ruler Of the World, the future of Spanish horse racing looks very bright.

Aidan O’Brien Sets the Standard in Europe

During his three-year Flat career, Ruler Of The World was trained by Aidan O’Brien in Europe. The Irishman has long been one of the leading horse racing trainers in the world. No trainer has won more British Classics in history than the Ballydoyle operator.

Ruler Of The World is a son of Galileo. The sire has been one of the most successful the Ballydoyle operation has had. He recently sired his 100th different Group One winner when Content won the Yorkshire Oaks at York’s Ebor Festival.

Not only does O’Brien keep a close eye on his runners when they are in training, but he actively follows their post-racing careers. He will be keen to see how well Ruler Of The World does in Spain. The Irishman may even train some of his offspring in the future.

This season, O’Brien is in contention to win the British Trainers’ Championship in Flat racing, something which would be a remarkable achievement given most of his runners feature in Ireland.

O’Brien has had a lot of success at the major meetings in Great Britain in 2024, including the Derby, Royal Ascot, Glorious Goodwood, and Ebor Festival. City Of Troy followed up his Derby victory with wins in the Eclipse Stakes and Juddmonte International, while Kyprios has dominated the stayers’ division, landing the Ascot Gold Cup and Goodwood Cup.

All eyes will be on Ruler Of The World’s future crop to see if any of them can replicate some of the success their father had on the track.
