SPAIN’S airport operator Aena is suffering from computer failures caused by the worldwide outage triggered by an update of a Microsoft cybersecurity programme from American firm, CrowdStrike.
The picture is so far unclear in Spain but Aena’s computer network has been affected-impacting check-in and passenger information software.
Airport operations are being carried out with ‘manual systems’. according to Aena- something also confirmed by airlines such as Iberia.

At around 11am, Aena reported that it had begun to ‘recover some of its systems’.
There are delays in processing passengers at Barcelona airport with boarding and check-in being carried out manually.
Aena sources in Catalunya told the Efe agency that it is still too early to know what impact the global outages will have on flights in and out of Barcelona, but they did admit that it could lead to flight cancellations.
Barcelona has 1,047 operations planned for Friday, including landings and take-offs.
Aena said they are looking to solve the issue as ‘soon as possible’ and that the problems are not affecting all airports equally.
The Irish budget airline Ryanair reported ‘changes in the network due to a worldwide computer failure of a third party, which is beyond our control’.
A company statement said: “We advise all passengers to arrive at the airport at least three hours before the scheduled departure time.”
