The Latin Recording Academy announced the nominations for the 2024 Latin Grammys — and for the second year in a row, the sought-out producer and songwriter Edgar Barrera is at the top of the pack, with nine nods for his work with artists like Shakira, Grupo Frontera, Karol G, and more. Just behind him are Bad Bunny and Karol C, who cinched eight nods each for the albums they released last year: Bad Bunny saw several songs from Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana make it into major categories, including Record Of The Year, while Karol G had a lot of work from Mañana Será Bonito (Bichota Season) recognized.

Major categories, among them Album Of The Year, also include beloved balladeer Juan Luis Guerra, whose album Radio Güira helped him walk away with four nominations. (Shakira’s Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, Residente’s Las Letras Ya No Importan, Mon Laferte’s Autopoiética, and Karol G’s Bichota Season are just a few of the Album Of The Year contenders.) Artists like Feid, Kany Garcia, Kali Uchis, and Carín León also received four nominations,

Last year, fans and many artists were frustrated to see that several música mexicana acts were shut out of the awards, despite the incredible year the genre had. The 2024 nominations fare only slightly better for música mexicana: León is up for a few big awards, and Peso Pluma landed three nominations. (Surprisingly though, Pluma’s blockbuster Génesis didn’t make it to the Album Of The Year category.) Younger acts, like Junior H, Fuerza Regida, and newcomer Xavi weren’t recognized.

One of the most closely watched categories tends to be Best New Artist. This year’s nominees are a varied bunch from across the globe; rising stars like Latin Mafia, Darumas, and Ela Taubert. See the full nominations list below.
