Ouigo launches tickets from just 9 euros to destinations like Madrid, Alicante and more
The company, which has been operating in Spain since May 2021, will offer ten daily departures linking these cities, with tickets starting at the bargain price of 9 euros for the general rate and 7 euros for children between 4 and 13 years old. Children under 3 years old can, as always, travel for free.
Ouigo will also expand its destinations on April 19, adding Valladolid and Segovia to its list of stops, and on June 1, it will add Cuenca as a new stop along the Madrid-Valencia, Madrid-Alicante and Valladolid-Alicante routes. The company plans to continue expanding its services, with the goal of offering 40 departures and serving 14 destinations in the near future.
The National Markets and Competition Commission (CNMC) recently gave Ouigo the green light to provide four daily services on the route between Madrid, Segovia and Valladolid, eventually determining that this would not significantly reduce the income of competitor Renfe, Spain’s state-run rail operator.
The regulator estimated that the accumulated impact on Renfe’s accounts would be 0.14% of its income, which is below the 1% threshold that would prevent Ouigo from operating in competition with Renfe.
