RB Leipzig started off their Champions League campaign with a deserved defeat against Atletico Madrid.
After just four minutes, Leipzig took the lead through Benjamin Seško who headed in a parry from countryman Jan Oblak. However, that was about as good as it got for Leipzig in the first half as Atleti slowly grew into the game and gained more control and continued to challenge Peter Gulacsi. Finally, the Spanish side got their equaliser when Antonie Griezmann volleyed in a cross from Marcos Llorente. As half-time approached, Leipzig showed signs of positive moves but it was clear that they needed their Red Bull.
Leipzig came out in the second half a lot more positive but still struggled to break down Atleti. Leipzig then regressed once again and in the 89th minute, the hosts deservedly for their winner from a Jose Maria Gimenez header.
After the draw against Union Berlin at the weekend and the loss tonight, Leipzig have seemingly regressed after their win against Bayer Leverkusen before the international break. Leipzig just seems to lack any real creative spark as Xavi Simons has not yet reached the heights he did last season at the Red Bull Arena.
