The Permanent Training Programme for Migrants by the Alicante City Council has conducted courses this year with the participation of a thousand migrants. These individuals have received Spanish language classes, basic socio-linguistic skills for the integration process, administrative regularisation, and the acquisition of Spanish nationality.

The Councillor for Public Rights, Begoña León , presented the course completion diplomas at the Isla de Cuba social centre. In the last quarter, 240 people participated, and 202 received diplomas. “This programme is an immensely useful municipal resource, significantly impacting the lives of migrants arriving in the city without language knowledge, which greatly hinders their social integration,” León emphasised.

“The courses are quarterly and in high demand, so the available spots are always filled, and most beneficiaries receive the accreditation diploma, highlighting the high level of participant involvement,” she added.

To facilitate access to this training, both in-person and online courses are offered. The in-person courses are held at various locations in the North Zone and the Centre of Alicante, including the Volunteer Centre, the integrated municipal centre Plaza de Argel, and the Department of Culture .

Activity Details

The Permanent Training Programme for Migrants is a fundamental municipal resource that organises and delivers training courses and practical workshops in the Spanish language and basic socio-linguistic skills for the integration process, administrative regularisation, and the acquisition of Spanish nationality. It is aimed at foreign-language-speaking migrants residing in Alicante to promote social inclusion through linguistic immersion.

This programme is a municipal benchmark for migrants needing to learn the Spanish language and/or acquire basic knowledge about Spanish culture for various processes associated with the migration project. It constitutes an essential service of the Public Rights Council, part of the current network of migrant support in the municipality.

The aspects of learning the Spanish language and culture are complemented by contextualisation and orientation aspects, with continuous and fluid communication between the programme’s team and its users, both in-person and through telematic means.
