On 12 December 1990, Real Madrid clinched their third Spanish Super Cup. Their opponents were Barcelona and the Whites took the first step towards the title in the first leg, which was played a week earlier at the Camp Nou. Madrid emerged victorious from the Catalans’ stadium courtesy of a goal from Míchel (0-1).
The second leg was played at the Santiago Bernabéu, where Alfredo Di Stéfano’s side delighted their fans and secured the Super Cup with an emphatic 4-1 win. Butragueño grabbed a brace and Hugo Sánchez and Aragón, who scored a superb goal from midfield to seal the win, were also on the scoresheet.
