On 22 August 2001, Real Madrid clinched their sixth Spanish Super Cup. The Whites faced Real Zaragoza and in the first match at La Romareda, the team drew 1-1 courtesy of a goal by Flavio Conceição. That match at the Aragonese stadium also marked Zidane ‘s official debut with Real Madrid.
The return leg took place at the Santiago Bernabéu three days later and the team sealed the title with a 3-0 win in front of the home fans. Raúl was the star of the show, netting a hat-trick in the closing stages of the game.
