On 29 August 2012, Real Madrid claimed their ninth Spanish Super Cup. In that edition, the Whites, who were competing as league champions, took on Barcelona. The first leg took place on 23 August at Camp Nou, where the Catalans won (3-2). Six days later, the Madridistas turned the tie around at the Santiago Bernabéu and clinched the trophy on the away goals rule to secure the trophy (2-1).
